You must choose the right affiliate programs to promote. Choosing the wrong programs to promote can literally spell the difference between success and failure. In fact, many people who may have succeeded in affiliate marketing did not succeed simply because they chose the wrong programs to promote.
As an affiliate, you need to work with companies that put YOU first.
Afterall, you are the one driving the traffic to their site and they don't have a lot of risk since they only pay you when you generate a sale. A lot of affiliate programs do not understand that. In fact, many programs out there are paying 5% to 15% commission on products they should be paying you a lot more for.
There is another important factor that determines success or failure as an affiliate marketer. That is whether or not the company pays you one time or pays you residual income for a single sale. This is a BIG factor you need to consider before you join any affiliate program.
If I was promoting products from affiliate programs that only paid me one time for a sale, I'd still need a JOB to cover my basic living expenses. On the Internet, residual income is basically selling a "subscription service" so that when someone buys the product you get paid "up-front" one time and then again each month thereafter when the person's subscription renews with the company for as long as that person continues using the service.
As crazy as it sounds, 90% of the people I see fail at generating any significant income from affiliate programs are promoting products that do not pay a substantial residual income.
So, just as you might put on a pair of sunglasses to filter out UV rays, you should put on a pair of mental sunglasses that filters out any program that does not pay you residual income.
Affiliate programs that pay only one-time for a single sale are BAD for your financial health. Think about it ... It takes the same energy on your part to promote something that pays you only one time as it does to promote something that pays you EVERY MONTH forever for as long as the person continues to use the service.
So, would you rather spend a day to make a sale that you get paid for that day and that day only or would you rather spend a day to make a sale and make that one sale pay you over and over and over again?

So, you decide that you would like to create additional income but you do not want to get a second or a third job. You decide that you want to be able to work from your home instead of working outside your home. But, where do you begin in your search for something to do from your home to create that additional income?
I suggest that you begin looking at the opportunities available with "affiliate marketing". "Affiliate marketing" is the term used to describe the business of selling other companies' and/or other people's products and/or services. What you do is visit a company's website or a person's website and click on the link provided for their affiliate program. The company or person pays you a substantial commission for promoting and selling their products or services. The company handles everything for you. All you have to do is to promote and sell.
I'm sure that you have heard of Wal-Mart. But, did you know that Wal-Mart does not sell any of its own products and services? Wal-Mart does not manufacture its own products. Wal-Mart sells the products and services of other companies. You can use this same business model by becoming an affiliate marketer.

What I recommend that anyone do before starting a home-based business is to search for a marketing system that can be used to get customers and/or prospects to come to you first instead of you chasing prospective customers and/or prospects.
